Analiza los estrechos vínculos o nexos entre la producción y el uso de energía y agua y, en consecuencia, la generación y eliminación de residuos. Por ejemplo, se necesita una cantidad significativa de agua para crear energía. El agua se utiliza como refrigerante en centrales eléctricas alimentadas con carbón, petróleo, gas natural y energía nuclear y es necesaria para generar energía hidroeléctrica. Por tanto, diferentes tipos de generación de electricidad requieren diferentes cantidades de agua. Al mismo tiempo, se utiliza una cantidad significativa de energía para extraer, mover y tratar agua para diferentes procesos industriales y prácticas domésticas y agrícolas.
Los recursos energéticos e hídricos también se utilizan para la recogida, tratamiento y eliminación de aguas residuales y residuos sólidos. Por tanto, existe una interrelación inseparable entre la generación y el uso de cada unidad de electricidad y cada gota de agua y, en consecuencia, para el tratamiento de cada pellizco/gota de residuo. Este volumen ofrece algunas soluciones para la gestión integrada sostenible de los problemas y crisis ambientales en parte o en su conjunto.
