520 ## - RESUMEN, ETC.
Resumen, etc. Preface

Students must learn to write clearly. Even if their writing never takes them beyond composing a simple cover letter for a new job, students must under-stand how to craft logical, clear sentences and paragraphs if they are to be taken seriously.

Resources for Writers with Readings, 2nd edition, the second book in a three-book series, is designed to take students from simple sentence con-struction through short essay writing and offers students an opportunity to practice their paragraph-writing skills as they learn to eliminate the sen-tence-level errors that mar their writing.

The second edition of Resources for Writers with Readings has been reorganized to provide chapters in a more logical sequence. We've added new readings, new exercises, and new cultural literacy themes all with improved student appeal. In addition, a model student paper in MLA for-mat has been added to Chapter 32.

Content Overview

Part One, "Your Strengths as a Writer," shows students that they already practice key thinking skills on a daily basis. Demonstrating those skills in writing is simply one more step in a process they've already begun. Part One also introduces the four cornerstones for good writing, which also serve as four bases for evaluation. The Four Cs-concise, credible, clear, and cor rect-provide students with the foundation to understand and practice the elements of good writing.

Part Two, "The Writing Process," introduces the concepts of prewrit-ing, drafting, revising, and editing, offering students multiple opportunities for practicing each step in the writing process.

Part Three, "The Elements of Good Writing." links kev writing skills to the Four Cs showing students how practicing each skill also leads to the mastery of the Four Cs. In addition, chapters devoted to topics including sensitive language, choosing the best words, and help with spelling give stu dents specific guidance in improving their writing.

Part Four, "Strategies for Paragraph Development," gives students explanations of, examples of, and practice in writing paragraphs in nine tra ditional modes of paragraph development.
