OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS, NATURAL AND MAN-MADE DISASTERS, which include events such as Hurricane Hugo, the San Francisco Earthquake, and the Hinsdale, Illinois, Bell central office fire, have clearly illustrated the growing dependence of business operations on the information and transaction processing services provided by computer and communications technologies. A vital lesson learned in the aftermath of these disasters was that those companies that have comprehensive, tested business resumption/disaster recovery plans are able to resume business operations faster and more effec-tively than those that do not have them.<br/><br/>The new buzz words of a modern day era are disaster recovery plan, contingency plan, business resumption plan, service contin-gency plan, and corporate contingency planning.
